Yarrawarra Aboriginal Cultural Centre’s Yuraal Cafe will be hosting a Biggest Morning Tea on Sunday May 23, 2010.
Damper, cream and jam with instant coffee or tea is available for $5 which will be donated to the cause.
Other menu items and specialty coffees, teas and drinks will be available on the day.
Come down and support Yuraal in the fight against cancer!

Katie Cowan is a Gumbaynggirr weaver, who also manages the Yuraal Bush Tucker café at Yarrawarra. Katie’s decorative woven wall hangings made from a variety of native materials can be purchased through the Wadjar gift shop.

Joe Lugnan is a Gumbaynggirr elder and craftsman who is accomplished at wood carving, painting & ceramics. Joe’s signature work would be his beautiful hand crafted timber dreamtime animals available though the Wadjar gift shop.

Aunty Robin Duroux

Aunty Robyn Duroux is a founding member of Yarrawarra and a Gumbaynggirr elder and artist who re-creates’ traditional stories and cultural values through painting and workshops.

Penny Evans

Penny Evans is a visual artist based in Lismore, NSW.

She creates contemporary ceramics and mixed media art. Each work created by Penny is unique and an evolution in her artistic practice.

Design work on the ceramics reference Penny’s Kamilaroi (Gamilaraay) cultural heritage in combination with her unique and evolving style. The technique of sgraffito is a strong feature of the ware and links to Kamilaroi traditions of carving into trees, weapons, utensils as well as ground carving for ceremonial purposes, communications and storytelling.

Penny’s 2D mixed media works examine more recent histories as opposed to narratives connecting culture to country.

Alison Williams

Aboriginal artist Alison Williams is a descendant of the Gumbaynggirr tribe who lives in the Clarence Valley, NSW, Australia and is recognised as one of the leading contemporary Indigenous artists on the North Coast of NSW. Alison has been practising art since she was about 8 years old and proffessionally for approximately 20 years and produces a diverse range of fine arts from fibre crafts and sculpture to drawings and paintings.

“I am a strong advocate for cultural awareness and strive, as a Gumbaynggirr descendant and artist, to share the wisdom and knowledge of my culture. I believe that understanding is the key to acceptance and therefore unity.”
